The Maldives are tightening up rules on wedding ceremonies after a couple’s abusive wedding video went viral on YouTube and beyond. This is fantastic news for tourism on the island, which is heavily reliant on weddings and those who simply want Maldives Holidays without fearing that locals may be using the opportunity to poke fun at them.

The new rules dictate that weddings must be supervised by the senior resort manager, and that should the couple request a local language for an authentic wedding, it must be simultaneously translated into a language the couple understand. When a resort is found to have broken the law, a fine of 57,000 Euro will have to be paid.

The popularity of foreign weddings is climbing and with good reason. The venue of the modern wedding is something newly-weds frequently fret about, and rightly so. Traditional weddings may not appeal or even be accessible to all, so taking your ceremony to a place in an exotic locale that will stay with your forever is increasingly popular.

If you’re after a wedding in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius Holidays will cap off a fantastic foreign wedding with white sandy beaches, volcanic landscapes and endless skies. Take time to explore the island’s interior and you’ll find a diverse and fascinating forest. Or trip along the coast to Port Louis and finding a bustling cultural hub with an emerging duty-free philosophy.

Perhaps the leader in tropical weddings is Barbados. Packaging the ceremony and honeymoon is a long establish tradition with Barbados Holidays for a happy couple and whoever else they need to make their wedding truely special! Even on the other side of the world from the Maldives, the sandy beaches remain just as unspoiled and breathtaking. Barbados (and other islands) offer many diverse settings for your ceremonies: boats, tropical gardens and the sands. And once the ring is on your finger, it’ll still be there to enjoy for days to come!
