A couple of years ago, before I transferred to Florida my brother and I decided to have a family vacation. So we looked at the figures. Costs of an motel and airplane tickets for the family of 5 (not including myself) was going to cost roughly $3300. Which was to expensive, so we looked at renting a Recreational vehicle. It was approximately twelve hundred dollars for 6 days & fifteen bucks a night to rent a spot at a RV camp.

We decided that sounded like a deal so I phoned my insurance agent got a temp insurance plan insuring curb side assistance and vacation insurance coverage. Picked up the RV, purchased chow and hit the ground running. At first I believed operating a house on wheels was going to be difficult akin to driving a big rig, oddly enough it wasn’t. Driving a 5 person sleeper camper was easy; the only issue you really have to be concerned about is reversing. (I am going to get to that later) No cramped legs, weird smell from the back seat, no children getting antsy and asking “can we stop I?” bringing your own groceries, and, no hotel expenses for a family of 5. We traveled to Washington D.C. to see our nation’s capital and The Smithsonian. The minute we got to the trailer park I got into a bit of accident reversing into our spot (thank goodness I bought RV insurance) nothing serious only a little crease to the other cars fender. I phoned my Insurance Agency; explained the circumstances and then they took care of it in no time.

Throughout the day we spent the whole 6 days exploring every part of the Smithsonian’s countless buildings and exhibits (I always thought there was just one structure). Hanging around our nation’s capital, the children learned a lot of stuff regarding our nation’s beginning, dinosaurs, fine art and Americas great many achievements. In the late afternoon, the adults would sit back drink a couple of beers and converse with the other people round the camper park, cooking supper from the camper, and the kids running round among the other families kids engaging in mischief and having their very own adventures around the RV park.

Everything considered if you take away the small fender bender and flat tire (roadside assistance option), the trip was a total victory and, the greatest part was it barely cost around 2 grand. If you are considering a trip with the family I highly recommend renting a Camper it’s an economical way to travel and sightsee, in these hard economic times. Oh by the way remember to buy RV insurance with wayside assistance.
