Portugal is indubitably one of the most nice destinations for golf in Europe. Not only does the weather suit golfing all year round but also the resort facilities are very mature compared to other nations. The facilities are typically fantastic and most of the golf staff is comprehensively educated and extraordinarily fluent in English.

My first experience of golf in Portugal was a golf course called La Troia that is based on a little island a little to the south of Lisbon, the capital city.

After flying into Lisbon, there’s a short bus trip to the fringe of the cape followed by a ferry journey to the island.

The golf course itself was amazing. It is a awfully mature golf course that’s unique for a bunch of reasons. The fairways are flawless, however if you get into the trees you are faced with hard recovery shots with your ball laid on pine needles that have fallen from the trees. This makes recovery very tricky.

The second feature is the proven fact that the golf course is near to a nudist beach. Whilst an advantage, this is a major distraction to the more youthful golfers although not if you need travel insurance for pre existing medical conditions!

My other experiences of golf in Portugal have come at Vilamoura. Holidaying there 1 or 2 years gone with the family on a standard beach vacation, Vilamoura is surrounded by so many outstanding golf courses that cater for all levels of golfers.

Whilst most visitors would choose the old course as their preferred location, I’d favor Vila Sol. This is partly because I played a wonderful under par round of golfing with a superb gentleman from Eire who I’d never met before.

And that’s one of the good things about holidaying and golfing. You can finish up meeting some absolute stranger and remaining chums ‘ years after.

Enjoy these 2 golf destinations regardless of what standard you play at.
